Sulfarara portrays the epic of the workers in the sulfur mines. De Seta manages to catch in images the thankless, difficult and heavy work these men do. Work that is undertaken in disastrous hygienic and material conditions, with a minimum of light and air. Using his habitual technique which anticipates the total absence of spoken commentaries and musical support, the director takes us to places we probably never have seen.
